Seems that he did this to respect the legacy of Charles E. Bastien…
Who will replace Brown as the series director?
Yes, Bastien had cancer, but Guru wouldn’t give him a break.
While I haven’t found evidence of how Bastien thought of working at Guru, these links from Glassdoor should give you a good insight about the studio:

I assume he left due to Guru’s toxic workplace environment and doesn’t wanna get the same fate as Bastien, I had assumed that Guru was responsible for killing Bastien.
Yes, I understand that directors do not control scripts, but even then, being a director is a tough task to do, and I think that American and Canadian pipelines have different views on directors and showrunners. Where as in the US episodes usually have different directors supervising with the showrunners having the creative control on how the script should be envisioned, directors in Canada likely act as the showrunners instead, thus allowing the show to keep a consistent quality rather than having different directors supervising each episode,
Who knows in the future really…
I think I found Brown’s replacement…

Sub-series annoy me honestly. No offense to those that like them, there is just too much at this point.
I doubt they will have the new style, which is said to kick in by 2025.
I had always wondered if PAW Patrol used traditional animation rather than CGI.
It also should be noted that there is also lots striking going on with workers recently, including with animators, so its possible that Guru had horrible working conditions.
Maybe you people are right. Still though, its sad that he died from cancer.
I thought maybe Paul Brown came in sooner but I guess not. And given how much episodes Bastien directed, this show might've worsened his cancer.
I feel so sorry Bastien. He could've gotten rest, but NO! Guru forced him to continue working 24/7 whenever sick or tired. Working conditions at Guru might have been horrible, not even their dedication post about him can excuse what working conditions the studio has.
