Marshall

Trivia
  • He is a Dalmatian.
  • Marshall has 5 spots on each of his ears, 1 spot on his left cheek, 2 spots on his right cheek, 4 spots on each of his front legs, 5 spots on each of his hind legs, 8 spots on his back and 4 spots on his tail. Adding them altogether, Marshall has 29 spots.
  • He is the second pup to play two roles ("Firefighter" and "EMT") that was introduced in "Pups Save Jake". The first was Chase with his two roles ("Police-pup" and "Super Spy Pup") which was introduced in "Pups Save the Penguins".
    • Both pups got their new gear in the same season: Season 2.
  • Marshall is the first pup to need help from the PAW Patrol ("Pups Fight Fire").
  • In "Pup a Doodle Do" he was involved with Ryder "breaking the fourth wall".
  • He is best friends with Chase.[citation needed]
  • Marshall can do a tail spin, but usually falls in the end, until the episode "Pup-Fu!", where he did a tail spin perfectly without any failure.
  • In "Ready Race Rescue", he idolizes The Whoosh.
  • Marshall usually crashes at the elevator, typically referred to as a "wipe-out". This has been a running gag since the beginning of the series.
    • There has been many times where Marshall gets one/two or all the pups in his mishap when being called for a rescue/mission and replying with a pun.
    • Examples are but not limited to tripping into the elevator, PAW Patroller, Air Patroller, Sea Patroller, etc. resulting the pups to be piled on him, getting tied around with Skye with a jump rope ("Pups Save a Surprise"), Marshall flying into the elevator on a snowboard he couldn't get out of ("Pups on Ice"), etc. throughout the series as well.
    • The other pups sometimes avoid the impact.
    • Some fans have claimed that he does it on purpose to cheer up the pups.
  • In "Pups in a Fog", it is revealed that Marshall sleeps with a teddy bear.
    • He's the first pup to own one, Chase being second, Skye being third.
  • So far, he has no lines in three episodes: "Pups Save Monkey-dinger", "Pups Stop a Big Leak" and "Pups Save the Munchie Mobile".
  • It was revealed in "Pups Save a Toof" that Marshall was afraid of flying. This was also hinted in "Pup Pup Goose" when he was being lifted from Skye's helicopter (pteromerhanophobia).
    • However, Marshall doesn't appear to be afraid of heights on their own. He can climb his ladder just fine and as Skye pointed out in "Pup Pup Goose", he climbed to the roof of the train station.
    • As of "Air Pups", he was okay with his jetpack and Air Patrol gear. This means he has overcome this fear and has no problem flying anymore.
    • Despite getting over his fear of flying, he has admitted in "Sea Patrol: Pups Save the Flying Diving Bell" that when it comes to flying, he gets a little chicken.
  • He is the first main character to play the role of an antagonist. This happens in "Pups Save a Lucky Collar".
  • Most birds like Marshall, including Fuzzy and Chickaletta.
  • Marshall has been first called on a mission 136 times.
  • Marshall has been called for backup 52 times.
  • Marshall has been called into action (either a first response or backup) 188 times.
  • Marshall likes the name "Joey", as said in "Pups and the Trouble with Turtles".
  • Marshall may be allergic to dust, which was revealed in "Pups Save the Bunnies". Ryder called when he was dusting his pup-house and he dropped the duster, making him sneeze.
    • He also is allergic to skunk spray, as he is shown sneezing when around it (or, in this case, Everest, who had been sprayed by a skunk) throughout "Pups Get Skunked".
  • He can understand and talk to animals; so can Cap'n Turbot.
  • Marshall is the most pup to be rescued in an episode, with 17 episodes.
    • Seasons 6 and 7 are currently the only seasons where he does not need to be rescued.
  • His name represents his job (Marshall = fire marshal).
  • Marshall was given a medic pup uniform and an ambulance in "Pups Save Jake".
  • Marshall sleepwalks, as shown in "Pups Save a Ghost".
  • It is revealed that in "Pups Save the Tooth Fairy" that Marshall counts sheep to sleep.
  • Marshall has stage fright, as shown in "Pups Save a Show".
  • He was first-deployed with Rubble as a duo in "Pups and the Very Big Baby".
  • He was first-deployed with Chase as a duo in "Pup Pup Goose".
  • He was first-deployed with Rocky as a duo in "Pup Pup and Away".
  • He was first-deployed with Skye and Zuma as a trio in "Pups and the Ghost Pirate".
  • Marshall has never first-deployed with Tuck, Ella, Rex, Wild, Al, Coral, or Roxi as a pair of two.
  • He and Everest were first-deployed in "The Pups' Winter Wonder Show". However, it was with the other pups at the time.
    • He was first-deployed with Everest in "Pups Save a Mud Monster". However Rocky was a first responder at the time as well.
    • Marshall and Everest have yet to be deployed as first responders on their own until "Pups Get Your Goat".
  • He was first-deployed with Tracker in "The Pups' Winter Wonder Show". But just like Everest in that episode, it was with the other pups at the time.
  • He was first-deployed with Liberty in "Liberty Makes a New Friend". However Chase was a first responder as well at the time.
  • In the Brazilian dub of PAW Patrol, for some reason, Marshall, along with Zuma, is referred as a female pup, when he was voiced by Sicília Vidal in Season 1 and the first 13 episodes in Season 2 before Renato Cavalcanti took over the role of Marshall's voice for the following episodes and later the redubbing of Sicília Vidal's lines.
    • He is also voiced by a female voice actor in the German dub, but referred as a male pup.
  • According to himself in "Air Pups", monkeys love him.
  • Shown driving his truck, out of uniform, for the first time in "Pups Turn on the Lights".
  • In Season 1, His eyelids were sorta shadowy and more blackish, Until starting Season 2, his blue eyes started changed to a more lighter color.
  • In Season 8 and onwards (AKA, when the animation style was updated), his ears became floppier.
  • He is the second pup[citation needed] to be seen without his pup tag following joining the PAW Patrol. This was seen in "Pups Save a Lucky Collar" when he dropped it on a ledge.
  • Marshall transforms into a mer-pup for the first time in "Merpups Save the Turbots".
  • Marshall is allergic to skunk spray, as seen in "Pups Get Skunked".
  • Marshall is afraid of bears, as shown in "Pups Bear-ly Save Danny".
  • Marshall is the second pup to sing a lullaby, for the mission, in "Pups Save the Queen Bee".
  • Marshall's water cannons can spray water, but have also been used to spray paint, smoothie juice and snow. This implies that Marshall's water cannons can spray any liquid put into them.
  • In "Pup-Fu!" and "Pups Save Sensei Yumi" Marshall has 2 kung-fu belts (gold = novice, green = intermediate), bearing the higher rank of all PAW Patrol martial artists.
  • Marshall is the fourth pup to stand on their hind legs, as shown in "Pup-Fu!".
  • He is the only pup other than Skye to have used Skye's pup pack as well as the others pup pack.
  • He's usually back half of a two-pup costume (dragon, crocodile, etc.)
  • Marshall is kidnapped by Sid and Arrby in "Sea Patrol: Pups Save Their Pirated Sea Patroller".
  • Although Marshall is typically discouraged when he makes a mistake or falls behind, he always ends up standing on all four paws, revealing his resilience.
  • Marshall is the first pup to be in the title cards in a combined segment ("Pups Save a Soccer Game" and "Pups Save a Lucky Collar").
  • Marshall is afraid of tigers, as shown in "Ultimate Rescue: Pups Save the Tigers".
    • Marshall has been shown to fear not just tigers, but also bears and crocodiles. This alludes that he is afraid of wild animals.
    • An exception was when he and the rest of the team went to go and rescue some polar bear cubs, as he showed no fear towards the mother polar bear, this is possibly due to the mother bear mistaking him as a dirty polar bear cub. This was seen in "Pups Save the Polar Bears".
  • In "Pup a Doodle Do" and "Pups Save a Cow", it is revealed that Marshall can both speak and understand chicken and cow (thanks to Cap'n Turbot). In later episodes, he can talk and understand what other animals (like the wolves in "Pups Save a Yodeler") are trying to say.
  • In other Nickelodeon series The Fairly OddParents, another dog called Sparky shares a trait from him: having a bit of silly mishaps in few episodes of Season 9 from the same show.
  • Marshall has a decent sprint speed, and he claimed in "Pups Save Ryder's Robot" that no one can run faster than him.
    • However, Chase can outrun him as a Mighty Pup.
  • It was revealed that in "Pups Save a Show" and in a similar episode, "Pups Save a Talent Show", as both episodes are from the second season, Marshall gets stage fright for two reasons:
    • Taking over Chase's leading role as King Arthur in "Pups Save a Show".
    • The same thing by taking over Rubble's role (only temporarily) as lead singer in "Pups Save a Talent Show".
      • However, near the end for both episodes, Marshall gets over his fear of stage fright by getting back his confidence.
  • Marshall breaks the fourth wall once by looking at the camera and saying, "Wow, two patients in one day" in "Pups Save a Show".
    • He also breaks the fourth wall when he looks at the camera and says, "Guess I should have backed up," in "Mighty Pups".
    • He also breaks the fourth wall when he said "Whoever heard of a crab driving a firetruck? That's just weird.", when technically dogs don't drive in real life in "Ultimate Rescue: Pups Save the Pupmobiles".
    • Marshall also breaks the fourth wall in "Aqua Pups: Pups Save the Whale Patroller", as during his net joke, he winks to the audience at the second net word.
    • He also breaks the fourth wall three times in "Pups Save a Dragon":
      • When he wakes up by Chase, he looks at the viewer and tells them if they can see him.
      • After Rubble wakes him up, Marshall says to the viewers that they're going to miss the play, but the screen transitions to City Hall as time moves on.
      • At the end of the episode, Marshall tells the viewer that it's the end, acknowledging the end of an episode, by using his half of the dragon costume.
    • He also breaks the fourth wall in "Mission PAW: Pups Save the Royal Throne" as when he runs towards the Air Patroller in the jungle, he looks at the viewers saying that he hasn't tripped once, until he gets tripped over by a banana.
    • Marshall also breaks the fourth wall in "Rescue Wheels: Pups Save the Risky Race", as when he hears Roxi's monster truck off-screen, he stares at the viewers for a brief second.
      • Marshall is the most character of all to break the fourth wall.
  • He was bitten by a pup twice: On the tail, by himself, in "Pups in a Fog" and on his ear, by Mama mer-pup, in "Merpups Save the Turbots".
  • Marshall was the second character to have a fourth voice actor; the first was Ryder.
  • "Pup Pup Goose" is the only episode where he tears up.
  • Kingsley Marshall, his voice actor for late Season 6, shares a name with him.
  • He and Rocky mirrored each other in the Season 7 premiere episode "Mighty Pups, Charged Up: Pups Stop a Humdinger Horde".
  • He was shown to be only comfortable singing in front of Rubble in "Pups Save a Talent Show".
  • In "Pups Save Francois the Penguin", when he and the other pups play "Ryder Says", the pups get called in for a mission except himself, he realizes he is called in for a mission.
    • Also for that same episode, after Skye doesn't say "Ryder Says" for two things (wag tails; and to laugh), Marshall says that he was having so much fun enthusiastically.
  • On the Nick Jr. website, there's an animated tutorial on how to make him.
  • Over time throughout the series, in seasons 1 through 3, his voice has a higher tone, while in later seasons, he has a deeper tone. This could point the fact most of the characters' voice actors change once in a while depending on the season and version.
    • In the Brazilian dub, for example, Marshall had a higher voice in earlier seasons. However, in recent seasons, Marshall has a deeper voice, with a more mature tone (due to the fact that his current voice actor is a young adult).
      • Due to the Brazilian dub, he is the PAW Patrol member who currently has the deepest voice of all the male members and the member whose voice has changed the most from Season 1 to the current seasons.
  • He is afraid of bugs, as shown in "Pups Save the Flying Food", when he mistook a drone for a bug and trembled nervously.
  • In Season 1, many moments showed the pups visibly frustrated or confused at Marshall's clumsiness and antics, which usually led to Marshall getting embarrassed. Since Season 1, this gag has been removed, likely to prevent children from antagonizing Marshall.
  • Throughout the series, Marshall's fire truck has various inconsistencies with it's ladder; it is often depicted without a sprayer on the end, but it shows up when necessary.
  • Thanks to the success and popularity of the franchise, Marshall appears in the current Spin Master Entertainment logo, along with his best friend, Chase.
  • He's able to walk on two in Pup-fu (episode) and noticeable in some promo images.
  • On January 6, 2023, a countdown for "Aqua Pups: Pups Save a Floating Castle" with himself and the shell of Puplantis appears above the Nick logo.
  • In "Pups Save Gustavo's Guitar", he made a pun that he was a Marshmallow when he crashed into the elevator with the pups.
  • He was mistaken for a ghost (by Rubble) in "Pups Save a Ghost".
    • In said episode, when sleepwalking, he is able to skateboard good (also by Rubble).
  • In "Pups Leave Marshall Home Alone", he had to rescue 4 kittens by himself with the pups pup-packs.
  • When Marshall goes to and tries to rescue someone on his ladder he sometimes falls back into his track, solo or with someone, both commenting "We're good".
    • One example is near the theme song of every single episode (not counting the sub series, Mighty Pups, since it did a movie intro).
  • As seen in "Pups Save Alex", Marshall doesn't like the taste, or smell of cat breath.
  • There's a noticeable running gag with Marshall's water cannons: he sprays it on Rocky.
  • It is revealed in "Pups Save a Flamingo Dancer". that Marshall knows how to play the drums.
  • He shares the same color as Charger from Rubble & Crew.
  • Marshall made an appearance in the Rubble & Crew spin-off series, in the episode "The Crew & Marshall Build a Fire Station".
    • Marshall also joins The Crew for the Wiggle and Wag celebration at the end of the episode, as well, his running gag of wiping out on top of them like the main pups in PAW Patrol.

  • Marshall is the third character who can understand cat language.
  • In "Pups Fight Fire", Marshall's favorite petting spot is revealed to be a scratch behind his ears.
  • During the training montage in PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie, Liberty gives the Junior Patrollers three fire fighter helmets, which resemble Marshall's helmet.
  • Marshall and the rest of the main pups make cameo appearances in the Kids Choice Awards 2024.
  • He is the only main PAW Patrol pup not to have a known Mission PAW vehicle in the series.
  • Marshall is the second PAW Patrol pup to appear as a giant balloon in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. He was first featured in 2024, taking over from Chase who had appeared in the parade from 2017-2023 (including in 2020 using archive footage from previous parades).
  • Marshall is the only male pup to appear in "Skye's Road Trip Rescue".
  • Throughout the series, Marshall has a running gag when he clumsily stumbles and crashes into the elevator in the Lookout, knocking over the other pups in the process.
