- This was the last episode to be written by Amy Keating Rogers.
- Zuma, Skye and Rocky are turned into Mer-pups by touching noses with the existing Mer-pups.
- Zuma, Skye and Rocky become regular pups again once the moon is no longer seen over the horizon.
- This is the first episode to feature a title card with more than one pup on it (Zuma and Skye). As well, they are shown in their Mer-pup forms as opposed to their usual pictures.
- This is the first episode in which Ryder specifically calls on a character that is not a pup during his briefing (Cap'n Turbot).
- The whale that waved to Cap'n Turbot may have been the baby whale that played with the diving bell in "Pups Save the Diving Bell".
- A flashback of a younger Cap'n Turbot was shown.
- Ryder gives his mission orders on the beach for the first time.
- The "sleeping bag wiggling" gag was used for the 3rd time.
- A portrait of Captain Blackfur was shown inside the cabin in the sunken ship.
- This is probably the same ship from "Pups and the Pirate Treasure".
- This is the final episode to use John Campbell as the voice of Ryder in the UK version.
- After Cap'n Turbot told the pups about his first encounter with Mer-pups, Chase looked away and remarked, as if he was talking to the audience. This is another possible instance of fourth wall breaking.
- Ryder is able to fit and operate a pup's vehicle (Zuma's hovercraft/submarine).
- The entire mission takes place underwater.
- In Canada, this episode aired a day after a album that is called, "Time and Trauma," is released by the band called 36 Crazyfists.
- If you look closely when Skye and Zuma are turned into Mer-pups, when Skye comments that they are mer-pups, the camera pans out and you can clearly see their mer-pup torsos in the water.
Errors
- For the early part, the sausages are brown. Later on, the sausages are shown in red.
- This episode aired out of order in the US, making US viewers think that this was Owen Mason's last episode voicing Ryder, but it was actually the episode "Pups Save a Stowaway" that Owen Mason last voiced Ryder.
- This episode knows that Ryder uses Zuma's Submarine that fits him perfectly, But in Season 1 episode "Pup Pup Boogie", Ryder does not fit in Rubble's bulldozer.
- Continuity error: In this episode, it was established that a pup who transforms into a Mer-Pup will transform back once the full moon sets. However, later in Season 9's "Aqua Pups: Pups Save a Floating Castle", it was revealed that this does not seem to affect Coral, who was able to stay as a Mer-Pup for as long as she wanted.
