"The Crew Builds a Drive-In Movie Theater" is the first segment of the 9th episode in Season 1 of Rubble & Crew.

Summary

When Mix and Motor's favorite TV star has a new movie playing in Builder Cove, the pups need to build a movie theater to watch it.

Synopsis

In the grassy field of the Bark Yard, Mix exits her doghouse and alerts Motor that a new episode of their favorite show, "Super Squirrelly Whirly", is about to start. Once the two get dressed in matching costumes, they make their way to the Crane Tower to watch the show on the Bark Screen. While Motor and Mix re-enact Super Squirrelly Whirly, they receive a call on the Bark Screen, which Rubble answers after joining the two in the Crane Tower, from Mayor Greatway, who asks if the pups can build a movie theater before the night so that all of Builder Cove can watch the new Super Squirrelly Whirly movie that will debut. Rubble accepts the job and alerts the rest of the crew that they will be building a movie theater. Auntie Crane then loads Wheeler's truck with all the construction supplies the pups will need before they head out.

Once the crew arrive to an empty lot, Mix and Motor show off their excitement for the Super Squirrelly Whirly movie and signal the family to start building. After the exterior and interior of the theater are complete, Camila arrives with the movie screen the pups ordered earlier. However, because the warehouse is out of stock of the initial screen they ordered, she brings a much larger screen, which is too big too fit on the wall of their theater.

As the pups contemplate how to fix this dilemma, Mayor Greatway, along with Mr. Ducky Doo, arrive to see their progress. Mix suggests taking apart and rebuilding the theater by reusing the pieces to accommodate the screen's larger size, but with the sun already beginning to set, Rubble fears they will not be able to build it in time before the movie starts. As Mayor Greatway leaves to spread the word that the movie night is unfortunately cancelled, Mix tells a disappointed Motor that they will not be able to see the new movie and that she will not be able to help with the demolition of the theater due to the crew needing to reuse the pieces.

Just before the crew begin demolishing the theater, Mix returns inside to find the missing cape of her costume. After finding it lodged between the theater seats, she looks up and notices a hole in the roof, showing off the stars in the sky, which gives her a sudden idea. She rushes out of the theater and suggests the crew build an outdoor drive-in theater instead, which would prevent movie night from being cancelled.

After Rubble calls Mayor Greatway to let her know of Mix's idea, she spreads the word to the citizens that movie night is back on. With that settled, the crew carefully take apart the movie theater and recreate it into a drive-in theater with a popcorn station, parking lines, and a frame to hold the big screen. Once the pups finish, Mayor Greatway returns, fascinated by their work, and announces that they can start watching the movie.

As night falls, Rubble & Crew, along with several other citizens of Builder Cove, sit in their parked vehicles with a brand-new flavor of popcorn Café Carl made called "Super Hero Super Strawberry". After Motor joins Mix in her vehicle, sharing a nuzzle with her, Mayor Greatway thanks the crew and together, they all watch the new Super Squirrelly Whirly movie on the big outdoor screen.
